Vernon Thomas, age 79, of Plainview, passed away January 31, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 1:00p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor John Powell and Oscar Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home.
Vernon Thomas was born on March 21, 1935 in Spencerville, OK to Joe Lee and Willie Mae (Wall) Thomas. Vernon married Mary Jo Crump on March 29, 1957 in Mangum, OK. Vernon was a proud member of the Plainview Fire Department, obtaining the position of Fire Captain for Plainview. After 25 years of service, Vernon retired from the department, wanting to focus on spending more time with his family. Always a hard worker he didn't rest long, jumping into the real estate market. He had a passion for purchasing and selling homes, especially rental homes. But most of all, family was Vernon's passion. He was very family oriented and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
The family of Vernon Thomas would like to thank God for giving us a Dad and Papa that was always there for us, an encourager and protector, a role model and father figure for many and the best Dad anyone could ever ask for, Vernon was an inspiration to anyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Dimple Baird.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Thomas, his mother, Willle Mae Thomas, his children; Susan Thomas, Tony Thomas and wife Jerrivon, Kimberli McClendon, Sheila Wood and husband Bryan, grandchildren; Mandee (Will), Colton (Ashley), Dustin (Erin), TJ (Kate), Skyler (Kymber), Tonya (Chad), Traci (Matt), Buddy and Pecos (Ginny), great grandchildren; Destiny, Maci, Bronc, Kaci Jo, Cutter, Quay, Madison, Malanee, Will, Kate, James, Rylee, Kalie and baby Grayson, brothers; Jessie Leo Thomas and Carlos Thomas, sisters; Helen Lipham, Anna Marie Odell, Lavon Reid, Kathy Phlenger, Connie Gourdon and Judy Rhiner.
