Obituary

Plainview-Sherry Lynn Crigger, 67, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in Lubbock. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Plainview. Cremation service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Sherry was born on May 13, 1946 in McKinney, Texas to Alton and Lydia (Hendricks) Nixon. She and Dick Crigger were married on June 8, 1968, in McKinney, Texas. Sherry graduated from the University of North Texas in 1967 and began a teaching career at Frisco High School. She taught in Frisco for eleven years before moving to Plainview in 1978. She then continued her career teaching English at Hale Center High School, where she taught until 2003. As a teacher, Sherry earned many honors and took dozens of students to state competition in multiple events. After retiring, Sherry loved spending time reading, scrapbooking, taking pictures, traveling, and watching movies, but most of all she loved her family and friends. She spent most of her time taking care of her grandchildren: attending school functions, having sleepovers, planning birthday parties, playing games, and of course teaching them-to read, to write, to be loving and thoughtful people. Sherry was a member of First Christian Church.

Sherry is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Dick Crigger of Plainview; son, Trey Crigger, of Springfield, South Dakota; daughter, Lesha Woodard and her husband, Nathan, of Plainview; grandchildren, Allie Grace Woodard and Aiden Woodard; brother, W.L. Nixon of Garland, Texas; sisters, Polly Martin of Garland, Sue Lindsey of McKinney, and Lou Love of Durant, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Joy Nixon, Barbara Estep, Dorothy Douglas, and a brother, R.A. Nixon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Sherry's name to the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030, or to the American Cancer Society, 3411-73rd St., Lubbock, Texas 79423.
