Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Plainview Cemetery with Rev. Robert Cortez of Thrive Family Church in Lubbock officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 31 with a Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Samuel was born on August 6, 1932 in Eldorado, Texas to Juan and Maria (Sifuentes) Martinez. He met Sara Diaz in Hale Center and they married on November 9, 1957 in Plainview. Theirs was a union that lasted for over forty years until her passing in 1998. He worked for over 30 years at Plainview Co-op Compress as a Cotton Compress Operator. As his health declined this past October, he moved to Eldorado and lived his remaining time there with his son Oscar and his family.

He loved spending time with family and they were his life. His children were his world and he loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. He enjoyed watching the Houston Astros and his children remember him listening to the games on the radio as well. When it came to football, of course, his team was the Dallas Cowboys. He is described by his children as a hard worker and he instilled that work ethic into them. He was unselfish and always did for others and he will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his bride, Sara and three brothers.

Survivors include two sons, Oscar Martinez and wife Melva of Eldorado and Sam Martinez and wife Lynn of Lubbock; two daughters, Diana Bergil and husband Jessie and Hilda Martinez all of Plainview; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
