Rosie "Shine" McDonald, 92 of Lockney, Texas passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lemons Memorial Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Floydada, Texas. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Floydada, Texas. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview, Texas.
Rosie "Shine" McDonald was born on August 31, 1932, in Paducah, Texas to Leslie and Henrietta Price. She married Independence McDonald in 1957, and they shared thirty-seven beautiful years together before his passing in 1994. She worked at the Coca Cola company and retired as a caregiver.
Known lovingly as the backbone of her family, Shine radiated warmth and generosity. She had so much love to give and it showed, not only by raising her children but also by raising grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Her home became a sanctuary of togetherness—where everyone enjoyed Sunday dinners and creating cherished memories. Shine loved celebrating every holiday. Whether she was cooking up family favorites, playing cards, or enjoying an outing at "Just 4 Fun," Shine's presence brought light and comfort to all who knew her.
Shine is survived by her six daughters: Nona Acy-King, Trina McDonald, Bonita Thorton, Peggy (Ardis) Davis, Danielle (Douglas) McDonald, and Nicole (Charles) Devroe; five sons: Luther (Alice) Harris, Independence McDonald, Jr., David McDonald, Dewayne McDonald, and Jamie (Yvette) McDonald; three sisters: Carol (BY) Tate, Mary (Larry) Johnson, and JoAnn (Johnny) Phillips; three brothers: Jimmy Price, Bobby Price, and Eric (Sandra) Price; two sisters-in-law: Lola Price, and Brenda Price; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Shine is preceded in death by her husband, Independence McDonald, Sr., her parents, Leslie and Henrietta Price, four sons, Johnny McDonald, Billy Harris, Joe McDonald, and Clyde Harris, a daughter, Lela Allen, two grandsons, Curtis Thomas, and Theodore McDonald, one granddaughter, Aaliyah Harris, four sisters, Carrie Price, Gayla Griffin, Myrtle Chester, and Betty Price, five brothers, Johnny Price, Napolen Price, James Price, Willie Price and Izea Price.
