Obituary

Robert G. Vera, 92, of Plainview, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 in Plainview.

Rosary for Mr. Vera will be recited on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in Lemons Memorial Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Arsenio Redulla officiating at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park.

Mr. Vera was born on June 6, 1923 in Ballinger, Texas to the late Otto and Eugenia (Gomez) Vera. Mr. Vera married Lenora Vera on December 17, 1949 in Clovis, N.M. She passed away on November 17, 1987.

Mr. Vera proudly served his country in the United States Army in WW II, where he received the distinguished Purple Heart award. Some of his proudest accomplishments were going to visit the WW II Monument in Washington, D.C. and serving his country. Ironically, he landed at D-Day on his birthday. Robert was a very avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed baseball. He loved spending time with his brothers, cousins, friends and Legion brothers.

Mr. Vera was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister, and four brothers.

Mr. Vera is survived by one brother, Otto Vera; two sisters, Mary Rodriguez and Josie Soto; four sons, Otto Vera, Robert Vera Jr. (Laura), Randy Vera (Anita) and Martin Vera; five daughters, Angelica Ortega (Bart), Juanita (Janie) Renteria (Richard), Sylvia Gonzales (Max), Lenora Pierce (Larry) and Diana Vera; He was also blessed with nineteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
