Obituary

Plainview-Robert Hernandez, 87, of Plainview, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 31, 2013, surrounded by his family. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Lemons Memorial Chapel with Pastor Steve Martinez officiating. Interment will follow the service in Plainview Cemetery. Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. The family will receive guests and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the funeral home.
Robert Hernandez Sr. was a devoted husband to wife, Tanila, for 66 years, a loving father to all his children, and a proud grandfather. He farmed the West Texas Land for more than 40 years to provide for his family. He also worked for the City of Plainview for a few years. He loved football and his team was the Dallas Cowboys. Robert was a selfless, God-fearing man, and a tremendous positive influence on all of his family.
Survivors include two sons: James Hernandez of Chicago, Illinois, and Robert Hernandez Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Allen, Texas; four daughters: Linda Ponce of Elgin, Illinois, Gloria Mancha and her husband, Ben, of Big Spring, Texas, Lisa Hassan and her husband, Ehab, of Cairo, Egypt, and Carolyn Hernandez of Lawton, Oklahoma; two brothers-in-law: Victor Rodriguez of Plainview, and Jesse Arjona of Wichita, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Margie Arjona Woehrle of Frisco, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tanila Hernandez; a daughter, Patsy Hernandez; a son, Michael Anthony Hernandez; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hernandez; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers; and one sister.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Interim Hospice for their excellent care of Robert, and also to their church family at New Life Church, for their prayers and assistance during this difficult time.
