Obituary

Rita Y. Alcozer, 79, of Plainview passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026. A visitation will be held at 4:00pm-8:00pm with a Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00pm on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Plainview. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Rita was born October 20, 1946, in Anson, Texas to Jovito U. Ybarra and Catarina Perez Ybarra. Rita worked for Plainview Independent School District for many years as a dedicated custodian before retiring.

Rita was a proud member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and served faithfully as a Guadalupana for many years. She loved playing Paco and bingo, and she found joy in knitting and spending time with her family. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys, cheering them on every season. Her warmth, humor, and devotion to those she loved will be deeply missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Henry Alcozer (Marissa) of Rio Grande, Texas and Martin Alcozer of Plainview, Texas; and her daughter, Manda Castleberry of Clovis, New Mexico; seven grandchildren, Julian Alcozer, Henry Alcozer, Jr., Manuel Lee Gonzales, Oscar Ray Alcozer, Eli Miguel Gonzales, Adrianna Nichole Gonzales and Crystal Ann Valadez; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Ybarra (Gloria) of Plainview, Texas; three sisters, Dolores Canales (Fidel) of Amarillo, Texas, Esperanza Lopez of Plainview, and Lupia Landin (Joe) of Plainview.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents, Jovito U., and Catarina Ybarra; one brother, Mike Ybarra; son-in-law, Bob Castleberry; and one brother-in-law, Hector Lopez.
