Following Funeral Service
Richard J. Entrekin of Lubbock, Texas, passed away in his sleep on March 4, 2026. He was 96 years old. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, March 9, 2026, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Hart Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.
Richard was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on August 13, 1929, to Jesse Perry Entrekin and Elsie Conrad Entrekin. Throughout his life, Richard worked as a truck driver, a grain elevator operator, and was employed at Co-ops. He also proudly served as the Fire Chief in Hart, Texas for many years.
He married Velma Magner on August 12, 1949. After moving from Scottsbluff, Nebraska, they lived in Hart, Halfway and Edmonson, Texas. After 45 years together, he remained vigilant by her side following a stroke, until her passing. He then married Patsy Warren on his birthday, August 13, 1994. They enjoyed 32 years together, living in Hart, Texas and moving to Lubbock, Texas in their later years.
Richard had fond memories of spending time with his daughter, Raena, rebuilding the engine on her first car, and spending time with her whenever he could. Richard also enjoyed spending time with his good friends. When serving as a Fire Chief in Hart, during storm seasons, he and his daughter would drive across the countryside to visually scout out tornados. He would then rush back to Hart, Texas to ring the fire bell, alerting everyone in Hart to take cover. Richard was a friend of Bill W. and, as a result, spent many years dedicating his life to helping others. This became his life’s mission for 62 years. His family is proud of his service to the community.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Perry Entrekin, his mother, Elsie Conrad Entrekin, his brothers, Bob Entrekin and Dean Entrekin, and his sister, Mary Beth Berquist.
Richard is survived by his wife Patsy Entrekin, of Lubbock, Texas; his daughter, Raena “Reno” Entrekin, of Lubbock, Texas; his step-son Bill Warren and his wife, Renee, of Shamrock, his step-daughter, Cathie Selander and her husband, Royce, of Farmington, New Mexico; his step-grandchildren and their spouses, including Matt Warren and his wife, Kandra, Teresa Selander, Shane Selander, Mellanie Cardin and her husband, Chris, Monica Schadler and her husband, Tom, Shameri Smith and her husband, Ben. Richard is also survived by his nephews, Jon and Kris Berquist along with many step-great-grandchildren, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
The family of Richard Entrekin extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Remington Park for their loving care during his last four years and to Accent Palliative Care for their kindness and support.
