Obituary

Perlita Ophelia Martinez, 83, of Plainview passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025 at her residence. A visitation will be held at 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Lemons Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Ophelia was born on May 25, 1942, to Domingo and Antonia Lopez Gonzales in Yorktown, Texas. She grew up in Lamesa, Texas later moving to Tulia, Texas then to Plainview. She married Raoul Martinez on October 14, 1961, and they were married for 31 years until his passing on August 2, 1993. Ophelia went to school and graduated from Plainview High School and went on to attend South Plains College and Wayland Baptist University. She worked for  Center Pain Hospital, Hale County State Bank, Estacado Jr. High School, and J.C. Pennys.

Ophelia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview, where she taught catechism. She also helped with the voter's registration and ballot boxes during the elections. She had many talents including sewing, gardening, crocheting, knitting and oil paintings.

Ophelia is survived by one son, Dean Martinez of Fort Worth, TX; one daughter, Cynthia C. Martinez of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren, Richard Medina Jr. of Plainview, TX, Kayleen Hernandez of Plainview, TX, Amber and Martez Brown of Dallas, TX, Nathan Cage of Fort Worth, TX, Katherine Moreno of Littlefield, TX and Meranda Moreno of Lubbock, TX; eleven beloved grandchildren, including, Zoie Brooklyn Cage of Fort Worth, TX, Martez Brown Jr. (MJ) of Dallas, TX and Nathan Cage Jr. and Nixon Cage both of Fort Worth, TX; one brother, Manuel Gonzales of Plainview, TX; one sister, Blanche Rodriguez of Red Oak, TX; one sister-in law, Paulin Gonzales of Red Oak, TX; and many beloved nieces and nephews along with many faithful friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raoul Martinez; her parents, Domingo and Antonia Lopez Gonzales; two brothers, Joe Domingo Gonzales and Gonzalo Gonzales.
