Peggy June Atkins McWhorter, 80, a long time resident of Plainview, passed away at Runningwater Draw Care Center in Olton, Texas, on December 25, 2013, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Plainview on February 1, 1933 to Charlie and Melba Atkins. After graduation from Plainview High School in 1951, she attended Lipperts Business School. She married Bobby McWhorter in 1980. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, was very involved with the church, and sang in the choir for many years. She retired as office manager of Marse and Son Department Store after 20 years of service. She was a long standing member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby, her parents, and a younger sister. She was survived by children: Charlie Ray Findley and his wife, Laura, of Vallejo, California; Cheryl Findley Wolhar and her husband, Keith, of Corvallis, Oregon; Mark Findley and his wife, Julie, of Kapolei, Hawaii; and Eddie McWhorter and his wife, Tammy, of Nashville; brothers: James Atkins and his wife, Donna, of Ft. Worth; Charlie Atkins of Plainview; and a sister, Dorothy Atkins Hall of Odessa, Texas; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many loving cousins.
The funeral service arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 3, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lemons Funeral Home. The service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014, in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Plainview. The service will be conducted by Dr. Tim Marrow. Interment will follow the service in Parklawn Memorial Gardens of Plainview.
