Patrick Skye Nava, 28 of Plainview, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022. A Funeral Mass will be at 3:00pm, Friday, August 19, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview with Father George Poonely officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:30pm, Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home.
Patrick was born in Lubbock, Texas on December 1, 1993. He was a fun-loving, free-spirited soul. He was a passionate leader, educator, and activist for environmental justice & human rights. He had big plans to make changes in the world as a philosophy professor and a positive male role model. He loved staying busy, had a love for people and humanity. He had a long list of interests including nature, conservation, hiking, camping, gardening, cooking, reading, writing, studying, playing guitar, and writing music. While attending University of Houston, he was a mentor with Ignite leadership program and with the LGBTQ+ & Women's Resource Center where he also served as an administrative assistant. He served two terms in AmeriCorps State & National with Texas Conservation Corps where he completed one year of disaster relief with FEMA in Nebraska and a second year as a Team Leader with the Trails Across Texas team, building and rehabilitating trails at state parks including Bastrop and Caprock Canyon. Most recently he was a Maintenance Specialist with Ray Roberts State Park, lovingly referred to as "Ranger Patrick" in his educational videos on TikTok, and a student at University of North Texas for a Post-Baccalaureate in Environmental Philosophy and Ethics. While at University of North Texas, he joined the Latin Film Club, creating music for a short film, and the Native American Student Alliance. He also wrote zines on local and national political happenings and was in the process of writing a GOTV edition. He graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and planned to attend Texas Tech University's Master's Program for a PhD in Philosophy focusing on environment within the context of the Texas High Plains/Panhandle.
Family left to cherish his memory are his mom, Veronica Soliz of San Antonio, his grandma, Angelita Soliz of Plainview, two aunts: America Soliz of Plainview, Valerie Holalde of Amarillo; three uncles: Fabian Soliz, Gary Lenhart both of San Francisco and Isaac Holalde of Amarillo; and three cousins: Victoria Urrutia, Zaiah Holalde and Ansley Holalde all of Amarillo.
