Matias Jesús Lugo Alviár,83, of Kress, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2017, surrounded by loved ones.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Lemons Memorial Chapel with a Rosary immediately following at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father George Poonely as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Kress Cemetery under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.
Matias was born on February 23, 1934 in Weslaco, Texas to Alfonso and Martina (Garcia) Lugo. He was a very generous, caring, fair and non-judgmental man. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Matias worked in the grain industry and retired from Continental Grain Company. He enjoyed gardening, raising farm animals and working his small farm plot with his John Deere. He also enjoyed a good cup of coffee and a good smoke.
Matias was married to Guadalupe de la Cruz from September 1, 1960 until her death on January 3, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; his son Luis Ledesma and his infant daughter, Lupita.
He is survived by his daughter, Maria and husband Rick Vasquez; granddaughter Natashia and husband Jason Arteaga and their children, Tristan, Vivian and Kingstan; by his son, MAJ Jesús Lugo, Jr., ARNG, Retired and wife Elizabeth; his daughter, Sandra and husband Kenneth Grubbs; granddaughters, Sasha Grubbs and Gabriella Grubbs; his son, Santiago Lugo; his daughter, Leticia and husband George Serna; grandsons, Angel, George, Bernadino and Phillip Serna; his son Arturo and wife Manuela Ledesma; granddaughters, Kathy Ledesma, Angela Nolen and Carolyn Ledesma and grandsons, Arturo and Richard Ledesma. He is also mourned by his grandsons, Ray Luis Ledesma and Israel Ledesma and extended Lugo and Ledesma families.
