Obituary

Mark J. Sloan, 72, of Plainview, Texas passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Mark was born on November 20, 1953, in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Mark Edward Sloan and Darlene Joan Morris. Mark graduated from Hoover High School in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1972. Mark worked for Southwestern Bell Company, that later was bought by AT&T and worked for 34 years and then retired.

Mark was a true sports fanatic; he played hockey in high school, but he had a special place in his heart for Oklahoma Sooners Football and OKC Thunder Basketball teams. When he wasn’t watching a game, you could often find him out on the golf course. He also had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and a lifelong love for rock and roll. Mark traveled to different places and countries throughout the years. He was empathetic and had a huge heart for animals, especially his pups. He was intelligent, funny, with no filter, he said what was on his mind, which is a fun memory of him. He spent the last few years of his life peacefully with his daughter Mackenzie and Jason. These were the things that brought him joy and shaped the way people knew and remembered him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Mackenzie Sloan (Jason Howard) of Plainview, Texas and Sarah Warner (Acie Warner) of Springer, Oklahoma; two grandchildren; two brothers, Kirk Sloan of Des Moines, Iowa and Kent Sloan of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; one sister, Annie Cedarleaf of Portland, Oregan.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Darlene Sloan.
