A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Iglesia Bautista del Carpintero located at 1103 Ave E. Hale Center Texas.
Maria was born on September 4, 1918 in Brownsville, Texas to Simon and Manuela (Gonzales) Ybarra. She was raised in the Valley and she married Refugio Castillo. They were married for over 40 years until his passing. Maria was a very giving, loving person. Her great grandchildren remember that she loved music and dancing. She enjoyed watching baseball but her favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys. She is remembered for her love of cooking and her passion for quilting. She was a talented quilter who designed her creations by hand. For a long period in her life, she worked unselfishly with Senior Citizens and enjoyed taking care of them. She will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Refugio; two sons, Ramiro Castillo and Fidel Castillo and two sisters, Josefina and Jesusa.
She is survived by one son, Carlos Castillo of Houston and two daughters, Sophia Castillo of Hale Center and Elida Maldonado of Austin; two brothers; two sisters; thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
