Obituary

Margene Webb, 83, of Lubbock, formerly of Plainview, passed away on February 10, 2017.

A Memorial Service will be held in Margene's honor at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church under the care of Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview.  It would please the family immensely if everyone in attendance would wear "brightly colored attire."  Margene was such a bright presence and this would honor her memory greatly.

The family will receive visitors at the church from 9:00-10:00 a.m. prior to the Memorial Service.

Margene was born February 2, 1934 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Thomas Eugene (T.E.) and Margaret Bell (Godlove) Mitchell.  She was raised in Plainview and was a Plainview High School Graduate.

Her passion was the education of young children.  She began as a pre-school teacher from 1968-1970 at Mother Goose Kindergarten. The School was originally run in Ms. Wood's garage and after the passing of Ms. Wood, the kindergarten moved into the Fine Arts Building and she became the Director and kindergarten teacher of the Mother Goose School Program from 1970-1973. During the years of 1973-1976, she was the Director and kindergarten teacher of the Kindergarten program based out of First Baptist Church which was named First Baptist School. From 1976-2004, she was the Director and kindergarten teacher at the First Presbyterian Kindergarten. The kindergarten program was active in the JAC (Junior American Citizen ) which was sponsored by the JAR for a number of years.  She also was the Director of the Kids Club, YMCA After-School Program from 2002-2005. She was always known as a nurturer and taught hundreds of children throughout her lifetime.  She was always willing to tutor any child that was struggling to learn.  She always taught the Love of Jesus, the Love of America and the Love of Learning.  Her favorite saying was "…and fun was had by all…."

She is described by her children and grandchildren as a kind, loving woman.  She was full of Faith and imparted that faith to her family on a daily basis.  Margene is remembered by her children's friends as a surrogate mother who was always available to them for wisdom and counsel as they were growing up.  She also had a wonderful sense of humor and like her father before her, she thoroughly enjoyed "pranking" everyone that she could.  Her grandchildren remember her as an unselfish, attentive person who never thought of her own needs and always put others ahead of herself. She was non-judgmental and always forgave everyone.  One granddaughter recalls a conversation with her grandmother when she told Margene that "Because of YOU, I've never NOT believed in God."  Margene's faith in her Heavenly Father was strong and she shared it always.  Her faith was unwavering.  "She was the Rock of our family and she was truly the best of all of us."  She will be greatly missed.

Margene was preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren, Laci and John Feagley.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Richard Lynn Webb of Amarillo and Thomas Lee Webb and wife Mitzi of The Colony, Texas; her daughter, Debra Kay McCormick and husband Gary of Plainview; six grandchildren, Dallas Webb & fiancé Scott, Chris Adams & fiancé Kelli, Kevin Adams, Lea Kay Brown & husband Terry, Brenna Matney & husband Justin, and Colton Webb. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Hayden, Kyla, Dylan, Kaleb, Paige, Alexa, Myles and Aiden. She will also be remembered by the countless lives she touched throughout the years.
