Leslie was born on October 17, 1940, in Whiteface, Texas, to L.H. and Beulah Welch. He attended Pecos High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1958. Following High School, Leslie proudly answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army.

Leslie’s true calling was found in ministry. As a Baptist Pastor, he shepherded numerous congregations across the State of Texas. He had a profound love for spreading the Word of God, offering comfort, guidance, and community to everyone who sat in his pews.

When he was not in the pulpit, Leslie was an enthusiastic sports fan. He loudly cheered on his beloved Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys. He also found great joy in the quiet comfort of reading and watching golf.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Tricia Welch of Amarillo, Texas; one daughter, Debra K’Lynn LaFont of Lubbock, Texas; two grandchildren, Madison LaFont (Adam Kendrick) of Amarillo, Texas and Patrick Yoakum of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Buena Adcock of Ft. Worth, Texas and Twila Meador of Waxahachie, Texas.
