Obituary

Juan Hernandez Martinez, 83 of Hart, Texas, was called home to the Lord on May 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family during his final moments. Viewing for Mr. Martinez will be on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 2:00pm until 8:00pm with a Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00pm, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 2:00pm, Friday, May 31, 2024, at St. John's Catholic Church in Hart, Texas. Burial will follow in Hart Cemetery. Funeral Services are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Born on April 28, 1941, in Brackettville, Texas, to Simon Martinez and Manuelita "Nana" Hernandez. Juan was a beacon of strength and perseverance throughout his life. He attended Brackettville Independent School District until the fourth grade, then Olton ISD until the ninth grade before working full-time for his father.

On May 14, 1959, Juan married Elena Sanchez, also of Brackettville. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage, and were blessed with five children: Johnny, Lorie, Robert, Abel, and Jimmy. Their union was further enriched by eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Juan's career spanned over 25 years at Hart Producers Co-Op Gin in Hart, Texas, followed by 30 years at Excel Corp in Plainview, Texas where he retired. He was a devoted community servant, volunteering as a firefighter and being an active member of St. John's Catholic Church in Hart, TX.

Juan was very patriotic, holding his family members who served in the United States Armed Forces in high esteem. He enjoyed traveling across the United States with his family, taking his grandchildren exploring and camping outdoors. Known for his love of music, board games, poker, and his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys, Juan made life joyful for all around him. His visits to various casinos across the U.S. were filled with laughter and fun.

Juan's life was marked by his profound spirituality and commitment to the Lord. His duty to nurture his family and help those less fortunate exemplified his character. Juan especially will be remembered for his wonderful spirit that strengthened everyone he met, his immense humor and wisdom, and cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones.

Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Martinez, and Manuelita "Nana" Hernandez, as well as his three brothers, Simon Jr., Joe, and Lupe Martinez, his two sisters, Sara Martinez and Alice Hernandez, and beloved son in law Efrain Rodriguez. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, survived by his wife, Elena Martinez of Hart, Texas, his children, Johnny and Carmen Martinez of Plainview, TX, and Lorie Rodriguez of Plainview, Tx, Robert and Adelina Martinez of Plainview, TX, Abel and Tina Martinez of Dallas, TX, and Jimmy Martinez of Dallas, TX, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and an abundance of friends.
