Juan G. Castillo, 83 of Hale Center, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at his residence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00pm, Thursday, March 20, 2025, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center. Burial will follow in Hale Center Cemetery. A viewing will be held at 4:00pm-8:00pm, with a Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00pm, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Funeral services are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview.
Juan was born in Mercedes, Texas on July 12, 1941, to Gorgonio Castillo and Maria Hernandez Castillo. He married Isabel Garcia on August 13, 1960, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center. They were married for forty-seven years until her passing in 2007.
Juan retired from Hale Center ISD where he worked for many years as a groundskeeper and bus maintenance. He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center where he served as President of the Cursillista. He was also a Eucharistic Minister, and an usher until 2021/2022.
Juan enjoyed spending time listening to Spanish music, working on word searches. He also enjoyed fixing everything around the house and tending to his garden, where he grew corn, okra, tomato, zucchini, squash and nopal. He loved to cook out and always made sure to burn the meat.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Isabel Castillo, parents, Gorgonio and Maria Castillo, five brothers: Perfecto, Pedro, Simon, Juan, and Martin Castillo; and two sisters: Julia Rangel, and Damiana Castillo.
Those left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy are his three sons: Damian and wife Michelle Castillo of Lubbock, Ricky Castillo of Hale Center, and Michael Castillo of Plainview; his four daughters: Armanda "Mandy" Castillo of Georgia, Mary Alice Garza and husband Jimmy Santiago of Abilene, Denise Adame and husband Victor of Lubbock, and Sindy Castillo of Hereford; twenty three grandchildren, forty four great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Natalia Garcia of La Villa, Texas.
Pallbearers are Brandon Trevino, James Garza, Joseph Baca, Aaron Trevino, Isaac Trevino, Chris Adame, Ian Adame and Ricky Castillo Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jeffrey Perez, Arelio Perez Jr., Allen Phillips and Valentin Williams.
