Obituary

Joseph Lee "Jody" Carpenter, age 56, of Liberal, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 16, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas, surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Monday, March 3, 2025 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Lubbock, Texas. Interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM, Sunday, March 2, 2025 in Lemons Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview.

Jody was born to Virginia Carpenter (Trevino) on July 26, 1968, in Garden City, Kansas. He received his GED from Fort Hays, Kansas, in 1987. Throughout his life, Jody had a passion for family, work, and the things he loved. His career as a driller in the oilfield took him across several states, but he always made time to follow his other passions, from grilling and dancing to working on cars and the 49ers. He had a knack for making something out of nothing, but he often joked that he could never compete with his daughter Chassidy when it came to creativity and talent.

Jody was a devoted father, and his children were his pride and joy. He was known for his deep love and commitment to his family, always making sure they had what they needed. His children fondly remember him with their special nicknames given by their loving father: Andrew was "Andrés," Chassidy was "Chass" or "Mija," and Dakota was "Koditas."

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Candice Renee Carpenter, and his son, Andrew Ray Carpenter. Jody was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Dave, his grandmother, Margarita G. Trevino, his grandfather, Jose Maria Trevino, his Tia Jaynee Trevino, his Tio George Flanagan, his primo, Vicente "Freddy" Vergara and his dog Bully who is definitely waiting at the gates for his beloved owner.

Jody is survived by his mother, Virginia Carpenter of Liberal, Kansas; his daughter, Chassidy Carpenter of Meade, Oklahoma; his son, Dakota (Estefania) Roubidoux of Liberal, Kansas; his sisters, Donna Trevino of Lubbock, Texas, and Rosalia (Russell) Aragon of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; nephews, Gabriel Gonzales, Andrew Salinas both of Lubbock, Texas, Tristen Elijah Ortiz, Dominic Xavier Aragon both of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; nieces, Thalia Anai Silva, of Lubbock Texas, Nevaeh Jayden-Rose Aragon, Aubrianna Presley Aragon, both of Broken Arrow; two great-nephews, Andres Jamey Silva of Lubbock, Texas and Juan Ramon Soliz, Jr. of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

He leaves behind his grandchildren: Zaiden Joseph Stephens, Easton Ray Stephens, Kaelynn Vivian Wyatt, and Brysen Dwayne Wyatt, all of Meade, Oklahoma; Sienna Renee Carpenter and Rayleigh June Carpenter from Shawnee, Oklahoma; and Xavier Lee Roubidoux, Gustavo Luciano Roubidoux, and Ava Marie Roubidoux, with another grandchild on the way in July 2025 of Liberal, Kansas.

Jody will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were fortunate enough to know his heart and share in his laughter.
