José A. Mejia, 62, of Plainview, passed away on May 24, 2017, with his loved ones by his side.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Lemons Memorial Chapel with Oscar Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00-7:30 on Monday, May 29, 2017 in the Lemons Memorial Chapel.

José was born December 11, 1954, in Guanajuato, Mexico. Having lost both of his parents by the age of 12, he travelled to Texas on foot all alone. He found ranch after ranch where he worked hard to make money. He met Maria Barbosa-Luna in 1981 and they married in Edinburg. She was a single mother raising six children and he embraced them all as his own. He was a kind-hearted, loving, devoted husband and father. He enjoyed fishing and sharing that with his family. One of his favorite past-times was having coffee with his friends every day at McDonalds. His gentle spirit and friendship will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson and one great-grandson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his bride and companion of over 36 years, Maria, of the home; three daughters, Rosaysela Pedroza and Cenaida Campos and husband Robert, all of Plainview and Elizabeth Pedroza of Amarillo; three sons, Reymundo Pedroza of Tulia, Margarito Pedroza of Plainview and Manuel Pedroza and wife Melissa of O'Donnell and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and one sister.

Servicio Fúnebre se celebrará a las 10:00 de la mañana el martes, 30 de mayo, 2017 en la Capilla Memorial de Lemons con Oscar Chávez oficiando. Entierro seguirá en el panteón de Plainview.

La familia recibirá visitantes durante las horas 6:00-7:30 p.m. en la Capilla de Lemons el lunes, 29 de mayo.

José nació el 11 de diciembre de 1954 en Guanajuato, México. Después de que sus padres fallecieron cuando José tenía solo doce años, el empezó su viaje a Texas. Viajaba de pie de rancho a rancho buscando trabajo. Conoció a María Barbosa-Luna en 1981. Ellos se casaron en Edimburgo. Cuando se conocieron, María tenía tres hijos y tres hijas. Él los crio y los amaba como si fueran sus propios hijos. Siempre fue un hombre bueno y generoso. Le gustaba ir de pesca. Su pasatiempo favorito era visitar y tomar su cafecito en McDonald's con sus amigos. Se echará de menos.

José fue precedido en la muerte por sus padres; un nieto y un bisnieto.

Los que sobreviven para llevar su memoria son su querida esposa y compañera de 36 años, María, de la casa; tres hijas, Rosaysela Pedroza y Cenaida Campos y esposo Robert, de Plainview y Elizabeth Pedroza de Amarillo; tres hijos, Reymundo Pedroza de Tulia, Margarito Pedroza de Plainview y Manuel Pedroza y esposa Melissa de O'Donnell y 13 nietos. También le sobreviven una hermana y un hermano.
