Jose Mata, 93 of Plainview, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am, Monday, May 23, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:00pm, Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Lemons Memorial Chapel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home.

Jose was born on July 23, 1928, in Eldorado, Texas to Toribio and Soledad (Rangel) Mata. He married Teresa Rodriguez on August 31, 1957, in Mexico. He was a hard worker and enjoyed music, singing, dancing, cookouts, and spending time with family.

Jose is survived by one son, Joe and Melissa Mata of Plainview; six daughters, Maria and Roger Garcia, Francisca Mata, Dora and Jerry Chapa, Irma Mata, Teresa and Angel Saenz, and Sonia Escareno all of Plainview; twenty-five grandchildren and fifty-one great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Mata; one son, Jose Mata, Jr.; one daughter, Gloria Mata; four brothers, Jesus, Antonio, Ramon and Toribio Mata and four sisters, Maria Contreras, Teresa Puente, Luisa Fraga, and Francisca Garza.
