Obituary

Jose Guzman Sr., 68, of Plainview passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, surrounded by his family. A Visitation will be at 4:00pm, with a Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview. Buriel will follow in Plainview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Jose was born on November 18, 1957, in Juan Aldama, Zacatecas, Mexico to Jose Angel Guzman and Socorro Armendariz. Jose married Sylvia Martinez on October 20, 1979, in Plainview, Texas and together they shared four children.

Jose was known as the life of the party, bringing laughter and energy wherever he went. A hardworking and dependable man, he was someone his family and friends could always count on. Jose had a love for baseball and proudly played the game for over ten years, creating many memories on and off the field.

Family meant everything to him. He was always there to lend a helping hand and was especially devoted to his grandchildren, never missing an event and always showing up with love and support. Jose also cherished the opportunity to return to his hometown in Mexico, where he could reconnect with his roots and the place that meant so much to him. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his generous heart, and the joy he brought to those around him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sylvia Guzman of Plainview, Tx; two sons, Antonio Guzman and wife Danielle of Lubbock, Tx and Angel J. Guzman and wife Sandi of Plainview, Tx; one daughter, Sonya Guzman and husband Abel Vasquez of Plainview, Tx; eighteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one on the way; his mother, Socorro Armendariz; four brothers, five sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

Jose is preceded in death by his father, Jose Angel Guzman, his son, Jose Guzman Jr., and his father-in-law, Antonio Martinez.

Jose Guzmán Sr., de 68 años, de Plainview, falleció el sábado 14 de marzo de 2026, rodeado de su familia. La Velatoria será a las 4:00pm, con un Santo Rosario recitado a las 6:00pm, el miércoles 18 de marzo de 2026 en la Capilla Conmemorativa Lemons. Se celebrará una misa de funeral cristiano a las 2:00pm, el jueves 19 de marzo de 2026, en la Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón en Plainview. El entierro seguirá en el cementerio de Plainview. Los arreglos funerarios están a cargo de Lemons Funeral Home.

José nació el 18 de noviembre de 1957 en Juan Aldama, Zacatecas, México, hijo de José Ángel Guzmán y Socorro Armendariz. José se casó con Sylvia Martinez el 20 de octubre de 1979 en Plainview, Texas, y juntos compartieron cuatro hijos.

José era conocido como el alma de la fiesta, trayendo risas y energía allá donde iba. Un hombre trabajador y fiable, era alguien en quien su familia y amigos siempre podían confiar. José sentía un amor por el béisbol y jugó con orgullo durante más de diez años, creando muchos recuerdos dentro y fuera del campo.

La familia lo era todo para él. Siempre estaba ahí para echar una mano y era especialmente devoto a sus nietos, nunca faltando a ningún evento y siempre presentándose con amor y apoyo. José también valoraba la oportunidad de regresar a su ciudad natal en México, donde podía reconectar con sus raíces y el lugar que tanto significaba para él. Será recordado por su dedicación a la familia, su generoso corazón y la alegría que aportó a quienes le rodean.

Quienes quedan para atesorar su memoria son su esposa, Sylvia Guzmán, de Plainview, Texas; dos hijos, Antonio Guzmán y su esposa Danielle de Lubbock, Texas, y Angel J. Guzmán y su esposa Sandi de Plainview, Texas; una hija, Sonya Guzmán y su esposo Abel Vasquez, de Plainview, Texas; dieciocho nietos, seis bisnietos y uno en camino; su madre, Socorro Armendariz; cuatro hermanos, cinco hermanas y muchos sobrinos y sobrinas.

José fue precedido en la muerte por su padre, José Ángel Guzmán, su hijo José Guzmán Jr. y su suegro, Antonio Martínez.
