Obituary

Jonathan Vera, "Johnny 5", 33 of Plainview, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in Lubbock. Visitation for Mr. Vera will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 2:00pm, followed by a Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00pm at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiated by Father Angelo Consemino. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home.

Jonathan was born April 18, 1990, to Ray and Rosemary Vera, in Plainview, Texas. He graduated from Plainview High School in 2008 and started working for Cargill until its closing. He worked for United Supermarket for the past 5 years.

On November 16, 2011, Jonathan and Jasmine Chavez were surprised with their miracle child, Jaiden Vera. His unexpected arrival did not change the fact that he was Jonathan's light and Jonathan enjoyed every moment he spent with his son. Despite his recent setbacks, Jonathan stayed the partner to Jasmine and father to Jaiden. You would often find Jonathan at a basketball gym supporting his son in any adventure he chose.

Jonathan avidly enjoyed cooking out, which often became a competition between him and his brother, Rudy. Most of the family and friends would say Jonathan won.  Jonathan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Jonathan never met a stranger and loved wholeheartedly. He has always been the "go to" person, whether it was a favor you needed, a shoulder to cry on, or an open ear, he would always be there. Many of us let life take over and move past certain things, but Jonathan never let his friends be strangers or family stray too far.

Jonathan is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Reynaldo Gomez, and Bertha Diaz Vera; and his maternal grandparents, Domingo, and Maria Silvas.

Jonathan is survived by his son, Jaiden Vera and Jaiden's mother, Jasmine Chavez; his parents, Ray and Rosemary Vera; one brother, Rudy (Rebecca) Vera; one sister, Cindy (Lamont) Hawkins; his niece, Sandra (Vince) Sanchez, who was more of a sister than a niece; and his nieces and nephews: Ashton (Daleon) Hawkins, Regan, Rylan and Jerica Vera, Jayvian Sauceda, Lathon and Zaylee Hawkins all of Plainview, as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
