Plainview-John P. Mason, 89, of Plainview went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 24, 2014. A celebration of life service will be held at 2p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 9th and Columbia Church of Christ in Plainview, with Pastor Evan Weiss officiating. Interment will follow the service in Plainview Cemetery. Funeral service arrangements are under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Mason was born on February 11, 1925 in Hereford, TX. to the late Homer and Naomi (Aldridge) Mason. He married Gloria (Perkins) on February 5, 1946 in Plainview, TX. she preceded him in death on March 14, 1999 He is preceded in death by his parents; Homer and Naomi, infant daughter Paula, five brothers; Roy, Henry, Wick, Mick, Al, and one sister; Jewell. Mr. Mason graduated from Plainview High School in early 1943, where he played football along with his brothers, Mick and Wick. He then followed high school by entering the United States Navy to serve his country in WWII. He graduated from Abilene Christian College, where he played football and ran track. He later earned a masters from West Texas State University. Mr. Mason was a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent. He served schools in Lamesa, Plainview, Kress, Quitaque, Lockney, Dallas Christian, Dimmitt, and Nazareth. Those left to cherish his memory are; two daughters; Cheryl Bradley and husband Van of Lockney, Donna Bevill and husband Jerry of Plainview, one son Ray Mason of Lubbock, granddaughter; Lisa Gordon and husband Kevin of Katy, grandson; Jimmie and Bradley and wife Becky of Ft. Worth, Great-grandsons; Bradley and Blake Gordon of Katy, Dawson Bradley of Ft. Worth, and great-granddaughter Faith Bradley of Ft. Worth. He is also survived by one brother Tim Mason and wife Pat of Stephenville, and several nieces and nephews.
