Jimmy Saiz, 89 formerly of Plainview, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in Amarillo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Plainview. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery. A viewing for Mr. Saiz will be at 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Tuesday, July 16, 2024, with a Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00pm, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview.
Jimmy was born on July 31, 1934, in Joffre, New Mexico to Roman and Perla (Salas) Saiz. He graduated in 1954 from Fort Sumner High school, where he was very active in athletics. He married the love of his life, Emma Jo Ross, on July 11, 1977, in Clovis, New Mexico, whom he loved dearly. She passed away, August 29, 2021. Jimmy served his country in the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his time, he was deployed to South Korea and logged over 30 jumps as a paratrooper. He was an active member with the American Legion in Plainview. He retired from Cargill, then known as Excel, after many years working in refrigeration mechanics. He then drove cars for Pollard for his "coffee money."
Jimmy enjoyed football, motorcycles, classic cars, metal fabrication, puzzles, wrestling, and playing pool. He was often regarded as a "pool shark." He and Jo raised race horses and cattle. Jimmy had a big heart, and he was good at telling stories and pranking those he loved. He cherished his family and his Doberman pinchers; he will be missed dearly.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Evelyn M. Saiz of Wisconsin; step daughter, Catheron "Sassy" Contreras (Randy) of Amarillo; three granddaughters, Shanandowa Aven, Sonya Rice and Krystal Voyles; one grandson, T.J. Waldie; five great grandchildren, whom he affectionately called "The Invasion"; one brother, Roman Saiz, Jr. of Amarillo; and 1 sister, Angie Saiz of Amarillo, along with an extended family.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jo Saiz; his parents, Roman and Perla Saiz; one daughter, Barbara Waldie; two brothers, Willie Saiz and Melton Saiz Sr.
