Jill Matsler
Golden
Jan 30, 1946 — Sep 22, 2026
Lockney, Texas
Her faith, compassion, generosity, and love for others will be remembered by all who knew her.
Quita Jill Matsler Golden passed peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2026, at the age of 80. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 25, 2026, at Northwest Church of Christ in Plainview, TX. Funeral services are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview.
Jill was born January 30, 1946, in Floydada, Texas, the daughter of Leonard and Lahoma Matsler and the younger sister of Gary and Mike. Her family-owned Leonard’s Café, a fixture of the Floydada community. She graduated from Floydada High School in 1964. She attended Texas Tech University and then became a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines.
On December 22, 1967, Jill married the love of her life, Larry Golden. This began a love affair that would last for the next 45 years. They settled in Aiken, Texas, where they farmed and ranched while raising their three sons, Colt, Chad, and Clay. Jill returned to college and graduated with an education degree from Wayland Baptist University in 1987. She went on to teach second-grade science at Lockney Elementary for 16 years.
Jill and Larry shared a love of adventure and traveled throughout the world together. They especially enjoyed Ireland and Costa Rica. Jill was a faithful Christian throughout her life and an active member of Northwest Church of Christ. She had the heart of a servant and great compassion for anyone in need. She was also famous for her homemade bread and cheese rolls. She delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Jill’s true passion was the people in her life. Although Larry passed away in 2013, her love for him never faded. She carried that love with her until the day she died. She shared a close relationship with her two brothers and had a special bond with her three sons. She was known as “Gigi” to her five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She treated her students as if they were her own children and developed deep, meaningful, lifelong relationships with people in every part of her life.
Jill was a fearless follower of her Lord Jesus Christ, and an important member of His kingdom here on earth. Her faith, compassion, generosity, and love for others will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Golden; her parents, Leonard and Lahoma Matsler; and her brother, Gary Matsler.
She is survived by her three sons: Colt Golden and his partner, Kelvin Glover, of Austin; Chad Golden and his wife, Jennifer, of Highland Village; and Clay Golden and his wife, Heather, of Aiken. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Grayson Golden, Brenner Golden and his wife, Kimmie, Grant Golden, Brooklyn Ebler and her husband, Hunter, and Laney; her great-granddaughter, Charlie, with another great-grandchild on the way; numerous nephews, nieces, and many close personal friends.
