Obituary

Plainview-Lola Jane Merrell Pigg, 93, of Plainview, made her journey home May 11, 2013.
Jane was born February 12, 1920, at the Merrell home southwest of Quitaque, Texas. Jane was one of eight children born to Warren and Johnnie (McGowen) Merrell.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Grey Mule Cemetery, southwest of Quitaque, Texas, under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Open visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the funeral home.
Jane graduated from Quitaque High School in 1938. She married Wayne Pigg on December 30, 1939, in Tulia, Texas. They farmed south of Quitaque a number of years, and then moved near the Lone Star community, then to Claytonville, where they farmed and ranched many years. After Wayne passed away in 1969, she and her family continued farming and ranching for some time. Jane was very active in the Lone Star Baptist Church and the community. Later in life, Jane lived in Silverton, Texas, where she also was active in church and community. She then moved to Plainview to be near her daughter, Sue and her husband, John "Cappy" Wise. Jane was a member of First Baptist Church of Plainview.
Mama Jane loved the Lord, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and farmed and ranched until her retirement.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Pigg; infant son, Merrell Wayne Pigg; and son, John David Pigg.
Survivors include one sister, Betty Ruth Wood, of Plainview; two daughters, Martha Sue Wise and husband, John, of Plainview; Regena Ruth Meade and husband, Jeff Meade, of Amarillo; four grandchildren: Jeffrey Wayne Meade of Quitaque, Jameson Meade of Lakewood, Colorado, Sheridan Givens, and SalliAnn Hall of Wilcox, Arizona; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jane's name to First Baptist Church of Plainview, Building Fund, 205 W. 8th St., Plainview, Texas, 79072, or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Westridge Manor and the staff of Accolade Hospice for their tender loving care of Jane.
