A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview. Resurrection of Life Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.
Hortencia (Tencha) Aviles was born August 11, 1952 in Batesville, Texas to Cristoval and Anita (Hernandez) Aviles. She grew up and attended schools in Floydada, Texas where she was lovingly raised by her maternal grandparents, Eugenio and Antonia (Cortez) Hernandez. She married Cruz Castillo on December 5, 1970 in Floydada. Tencha was a loving, devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an excellent homemaker and baker who loved to bake for her family and was a loving caregiver to all twelve of her grandchildren. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she taught CCE and RCIA along with her husband for many years.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents and one brother (cousin) Joe Vasquez, Jr.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Cruz of Plainview; one son, Greg Castillo and wife Nissa of Plainview; three daughters, Cecilia Alvarado and husband Danny of Abernathy, Miranda Castillo of Plainview and Angela Castillo of Abernathy; twelve grandchildren, Alysia (Eric), Jacob, Alexis, Aryana, Dorian, Carissa, Jaiden, Isaac, Malachi, Dylan, Julian, Dominic; one great granddaughter, Laila; two brothers, Eugenio (Gene) Aviles and wife Rosa of California, Joe Aviles and wife Josie of Plainview; three sisters, Isabel Pichardo of Lockney, Yolanda Martinez of Floydada and Olivia Aviles of Plainview; cousins that she was raised with and considered siblings, Lanora Vasquez Kohut of Michigan, Diana Vasquez Avila and Susanna Vasquez Avila both of Sherman, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
