Reverend Herman Martinez, 86, of Plainview, passed away on August 14, 2020 at Covenant Hospital Plainview. He was born on May 28, 1934 in Bryan, Texas. In 1961 Reverend Martinez married Guadalupe Zavala in Floydada, Texas. They had seven children together.He served as pastor of Templo Nueva Vida in Floydada after farming with Paul Hrbacek in Lockney. He was in ministry and in the service of the Lord for 38 years. His wife Lupe served faithfully alongside him as his helper and prayer partner.

He is survived by two brothers, Juan Guzman, and Leandro Guzman, both of Dallas: and two sisters, Julia Torres of Dallas and Virginia Hernandez of Floydada. Reverend Martinez is also survived by his sons and daughters, Linda and Roger Nichols of Floydada, Maria Guadalupe Lee of Plainview, Johnny Martinez of Plainview, Sue and Pedro Villarreal of Lubbock, Leslie and Gilbert Flores of Floydada, Samuel Martinez of Plainview, and Rebecca and Michael Ybarra of Lubbock. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Simon Martinez and Magdalena Castaneda, and his wife of 52 years Guadalupe Martinez. He enjoyed cars, western movies featuring John Wayne, and spending time with his family.

Memorials may be made to the Voice of the Martyrs or the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.

Funeral Service for Reverend Martinez will be held at 10:00AM Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00PM Monday, August 17, 2020 at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Lemon Funeral Home.
