Obituary

Floy Smith, 92, of Kress passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. A viewing for Mrs. Smith will be on Sunday, June 11, 2023, beginning at 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Kress Methodist Church with Pastor Donna Lindley officiating. A burial will follow in Kress Cemetery under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Floy Algerine Spain was born on August 29, 1930, in Hollis, Oklahoma to John and May (Donley) Spain. For most of her life, Floy was known by her family as "Cupie". She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949. She married Jim Smith on February 25, 1951, in Clayton, New Mexico. They lived in Dalhart, Texas before moving to Hereford, Texas in 1951 where they lived until moving to Kress, Texas in 1955. Floy owned and ran her own preschool and beauty shop before working as a Postmaster for USPS. Mr. Smith passed away March 1, 2019.

Floy loved to fish and travel.  She also loved to sew.   She made many, many quilts including those she made for weddings and the birth of every child, grandchild and many of her great grandchildren. She cherished her family and enjoyed hosting and attending birthday parties and holiday celebrations. Floy was a member of DAR, Kress Baptist Church and attended Kress Methodist Church for many years.

Floy is survived by her daughters, Sherry Lee and husband Robert of Canadian, Texas, and Nova Stippel and husband Oly of Baytown, Texas; son Mickiel Smith of Kress, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Lee and wife Heather of Canadian, Texas, Denise Roberson and husband Todd of Perryton, Texas, Kathy Province and husband Shea of Brock, Texas, Mindy Merling and husband Chad of Baytown, Texas, Clay Evans and wife Jennifer of Petersburg, Texas,  Zach Stippel and wife Heather of Winnie, Texas, and Rachel Helton  and husband Scott of Questa, New Mexico; niece, Christine Bushong and nephews, Kenneth Moore and Dennis Moore all of Blanco, Texas and 24 great-grandchildren.

Floy is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Smith; her parents, John and May Spain; brothers, John Martin Spain, Doyle Spain, and Cletus Spain; sister, Pauline Gray; sister-in-law, Martha Bates and niece, Anita Woods.
