Obituary

Diana Marlene Lansdon-Samples, 90 of Plainview, passed away peacefully in her home on June 19, 2024. Family will host a visitation at 1:00pm until 5:00pm on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Lemons Funeral Home. Funeral Service for Mrs. Samples will be at 11:00am, Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Trinity Life Church. Interment will follow in Idalou Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview.

Diana was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 16, 1933, to Ina Henderson. She graduated from Idalou High school where she played basketball and was a Majorette (a twirler). Her greatest joy, besides her children, Pam and Mark, were her three granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Diana made everyone laugh often with her fast humor and antics that her family dubbed "Only Meme!" moments.

She met Burl Lansdon at the Playmore skating rink where he swept her off her feet and they married in 1950. In 2000, after 50 years of marriage, Burl succumbed to the cancer he had been battling. Around 2006 Diana started talking to a friend of a friend who was in town visiting and they struck up a long-distance relationship. She and Ted married in 2007 and lived together happily until he passed away in 2022.

When Diana was in her fifty's she began taking classes at Texas Tech and Amarillo College to earn her Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor certification. She blessed many with her kind counsel at the Safe-P Wheeler Unit, Reed Adolescent Center,  and Women's Crisis Center, among many more.

Diana was an incredibly talented artist who loved using oils and pastels. She enjoyed spending time in her garden with her beautiful roses, geraniums, and variety of vegetables, when she could get them to grow. In her younger years, taking her kids to Lake Bridgeport to water ski and fish was a beloved past time. Her family will greatly miss her wonderful sense of humor, unending patience, and kind (yet firm) counsel.

Diana is preceded in death by her mother, Ina Vyvyian Henderson, her grandparents, J. Clyde, and Floy Henderson, her first husband Burl Lansdon, and her second husband Ted Samples. She is survived by her daughter, Pam & her husband Drew Lloyd; her son, Mark Lansdon; her granddaughters, Neishay White, Malissa Smith & her husband Adam, and Jewelet Barnes; her great-grandsons, Zakry Painter, and Cody Smith. She is also survived by her wonderful caretaker, Eva Salas, who poured her love and affection into everything she did for Diana. Words can never express how truly grateful we are to you Eva, we love you!
