Plainview-Daniel Salazar, Sr., 74, of Plainview, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Plainview Cemetery, with Augustine Salazar officiating. Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.
Daniel Santoy Salazar, Sr. was born on February 23, 1939 in Mexico to Augustin Salazar Sr. and Merced (Santoy) Salazar. Daniel worked in Tulia for the power company before starting at Swift Meat Packing Company. In all he worked more than 25 years for Swift, which became Excel Meat Packing, and eventually Cargill Meat Packing. Daniel loved spending time working in the garden and yard, as well as planting trees. He was the kind of person who helped anyone in need, whether it was giving of his time, food, or money. He also had an affinity for animals, which he enjoyed taking care of in his spare time. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Daniel was a member of the Baptist Church.
Daniel is survived by his children: Elias Salazar and his wife, Rosie, of San Antonio; Paul Salazar and his wife, Irma, of Ft. Worth; Daniel Salazar, Jr., of Plano, TX.; Charlie Salazar and his wife, Maria, of Arlington, TX.; and Irma Salazar and her husband, Theo Smith, of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Davita Gracia, Ester Sink, Augustine Salazar Jr., and Eva Trevino. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings: Anna Escudero, Benjamin Salazar, Roberto Salazar, Racheal Garza, Jovita Barrios, Ninfa Escamilla, Orfelinda Gonzalez, and Isabell Cayas.
