Plainview- Chester "Check" Huffine, age 93, passed away May 16, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M., Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Lemons Memorial Chapel with Kyle Brock officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home.
Chester Huffine was born to William (Bill) and Elsie Huffine near Cement, OK in the small community of Rocky Ford. Chester moved to Texas at an early age with his family. They settled near Olton, Texas where they farmed. He graduated from Olton High School in 1939. After graduation he joined the United State Army in 1940 where he honorably served his country in Italy, France and Germany. He was discharged in 1945. Chester married Mildred Luman on January 23, 1949 in Sunray, Texas. After completing his service to his country he worked five years for Panhandle Pipe Line Station; then went to work for Phillips Chemical Co. in 1950. He worked there for 25 years until the plant closed in 1976. He then worked for the Dumas Junior High School until 1985, where he retired at the age of 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Huffine, in 2001 and one brother Eldon Huffine.
Chester is survived by his daughter, Sondra Long and husband Randal, brothers, Fennely Huffine and Don Huffine, grandson, Travis Orand and three great grandchildren.
