IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlotte Jan
Harris
December 17, 1934 – June 1, 2024
Charlotte Jan Harris, age 89 of San Antonio, Texas, went peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 1st, 2024. She was reunited with Jack, the love of her life, and husband until his passing in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her son Don Alan Harris and her parents Ray and Chloe (Dill) Self. She was a loving wife and mother. Jesus Christ and her family were the most important things in her life. She strived daily to make her house a home built around Jesus Christ, full of love and kindness for every member of her family. So, what a joyous reunion that must have been when she met up with her family and Lord and Savior!
She was born and raised in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She then attended Oklahoma State University for two years before transferring to Texas Tech University. In 1956, she earned a degree in Home Economics from Texas Tech. She began teaching school in Kress, Texas where she met her husband Jack Harris, a farmer from Plainview, Texas. They were joined in marriage on April 16, 1957, and soon moved to Crystal City, Texas. There they farmed and raised their three children: Don Alan Harris, Dr. Kurt Wayne Harris, and Lisa Rae Harris. In 1967, they moved to Stratford, Texas where her and Jack developed the family farm.
Through her work with the Stratford Church of Christ, Sherman County 4-H and working on a farm, Jan taught her children not only about the joys of life but also about hardships and disappointments. She raised them to pick themselves up when they got knocked down and to work hard at whatever they did and to do their best at it. Most importantly, she taught them to make friends because they would be needed throughout life, and to treat them the way they would want to be treated. Jan also emphasized that the family serves an awesome God.
After her children had gone off to college, her and Jack moved back to Plainview where she was active in the 9th and Columbia Church of Christ and worked at the Hale County Soil and Water Conservation District.
After Jack passed away in 2003, she moved to Lubbock, Texas where she enjoyed being involved in the Lubbock Women's Club and Sunset Church of Christ.
Jan will be remembered for her amazing cooking skills, sharp wit, humor, and love of her family. Jan is survived by her son, Dr. Kurt Wayne Harris and his wife, Merle (whom she adored), and her daughter, Lisa Rae Harris; and her grandson, Ben Fender, and his wife Jade; as well as her niece Mitzi Laramy and nephew Mark Middleton.
