Obituary

Cecil David Boedeker passed from this life on May 26, 2025,at the age of 92. Cecil was born in Plainview on March 25, 1933, to Ted and Freda Boedeker. He attended Prairieview, Providence and then graduated from Lockney High School in 1951. He enlisted in the United States Army on April 28, 1954, during the Korean War. He was a First Armored Division, 123rd Armored Maintenance Battalion in Fort Hood, Kileen, Texas. His duties were maintenance and repairs replacing engines on vehicles and testing new concepts on modern warfare. He married Lajuanna Richards on July 4, 1954,  afterward she moved to Kileen. His son Gary Lynn was born July 8, 1955, in Fort Hood. Cecil was discharged from the United States Army on January 27, 1956, to come home and farm with his dad in the Providence Community. His daughter, Vicki, was born on September 5, 1956, in Plainview.

Cecil enjoyed farming and had a close relationship with his dad. He followed in his dad's footsteps by becoming a private pilot. His pilot log started May 7, 1960, and he received his Federal Aviation single engine Private Pilots License on September 5, 1961. They farmed land in Colorado, Uvalde, and the Providence community. He flew until September 14, 1999, at the age of 66 years old. His last medical exam and renewal was August 22, 2007, at the age of 74. At the age of 80, Cecil visited the Plainview Airport, after taking off, numerous turns, and landing, he was told he could take the plane up by himself, to which he replied, "that all I needed to know." In his early 80's he still enjoyed hauling grain and coal ash in his clean and well kept Semi.

Cecil was always a loving husband to Lajuanna through all her mental and physical needs. He was a loving, sweet, kind, generous, helpful, and funny Dad, Papa, to his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and extended family, friends, and dogs.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lajuanna Boedeker; granddaughter, Jamie Boedeker; his parents, Ted and Freda Boedeker; a brother, Larry Boedeker; and sister, Foncine Carthel.

Cecil is survived by his son, Gary Lynn Boedeker and wife, Leah of Era, Texas; his daughter, Vicki Roderick and husband, Robby of Amarillo, Texas; one brother, Merlin Boedeker and wife Pam of Lockney, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Royce Carthel of Plainview, and Lee Richards of Houston; one sister-in-law, Pat Boedeker of Plainview; four grandchildren, Mindy Morrow, Craig Boedeker, Lori Rimmer and husband, Rhett, and Jade Price; and nine great grandchildren, Josh and Matthew Rodriguez, Sadey and Blake Boedeker, Callie, Channing, and Claire Rimmer, and Myles and Jordan Price; and many nieces and nephews, and friends in the Farming Community.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the caregivers at Veterans Administration, CLC Welcome Home Unit in Amarillo, for all their care, love, and kindness to Cecil and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 510 FM 2301, Lockney, Texas, 79241.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 4:00pm - 6:00pm, at Lemons Funeral Home. Funeral Service for Mr. Boedeker will be at 1:30pm, Friday, May 30, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lockney. Interment will follow in Plainview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.
