Obituary

Plainview-Carmaleta Jean Hooten, 66, of Plainview, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013, in Lubbock. A memorial service to celebrate and honor her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Lemons Memorial Chapel, with Earle McDonough officiating, and with Hospice Chaplain, Oscar Chavez, assisting. Funeral service and cremation arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.
Carmaleta "Cookie" Hooten was born on October 1, 1946, in Plainview to Lonnie and Wilma Gene (Grisham) Evans. She and John T. Hooten were married on September 1, 1967 at Seth Ward Baptist Church in Plainview. Cookie was more than just a homemaker; she was an excellent wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to cook and a specialty was Christmas cookies for the family. She would give a bucket of cookies to the boys of the family every Christmas. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and reading, and was a member of Seth Ward Baptist Church. She was an avid fan of Texas Rangers baseball. Cookie will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Cookie is survived by her husband, John, of Plainview; daughter, Symantha Pinkerton; son, Shane Hooten and his wife, Renee; son-in-law, Kit Pinkerton, all of Plainview; four grandchildren: Jewellee Pinkerton, Branden Pinkerton, Shelby Hooten, and Tyler Hooten; brother, Arlen Evans and his wife, Stephanie, of Plainview; aunts, Nina Vee Sanders, of Floydada, Berneice Donathon of Wildorado, Texas, Dottie Evans of San Angelo, and Anna Ruth Evans of Plainview; nephews: Lonnie Dale Evans of Enid, Oklahoma, and Logan Evans of Plainview; and her niece, Jessica Evans of Plainview. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Scott Hooten; and a daughter, Synthia Pinkerton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Cookie's name to the American Cancer Society, 3411-73rd St., Lubbock, TX. 79423.
