Obituary

Brandi Michelle Brown, age 55, passed away in Plainview, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm, Friday, March 22, 2024, at Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ with Minister Evan Weiss officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview.

Brandi was born in Plainview, Texas on June 10, 1968, to Lonnie and Nancy Brown. The marriage ended with Nancy having the sole responsibility of raising a baby with special needs.

Brandi is preceded in death by her father, Lonnie Brown; survived by her half-brother, Lonnie Brown, Jr. of Tulia, and her parents, Nancy and Troy Carter of Plainview.

Brandi had babysitters and was in daycare until she attended her first year in school at Thunderbird Elementary. The teacher encouraged Nancy to get Brandi into a state school for the best education and development of her skills. Mexia State School accepted Brandi and they helped her, but it was far from home and made family visits difficult.

The next home for Brandi was at Abilene State school where she was in special education classes. The State changed its policies and began to mainstream the special needs students into public schools. There were many challenges for Brandi, but she was proud to say she graduated from Cooper High School.

Brandi, along with her friends, took part in the annual Special Olympics in Denton, Texas, where she won more than a dozen Olympic medals.

After graduating high school, Brandi moved to a community placement program in Sweetwater. The girls were taught life skills to help them become independent, young adults. While living in Sweetwater, Brandi attended church and was baptized. She loved to tell everyone: "I am a Christian."

The next move for Brandi was to Cherry Tree in Lubbock. The director, Agnes Dent, and her husband helped the girls find work and took them on road trips in their motor home. Brandi loved having a job and making friends everywhere she went.

Last year, after many moves in 50+ years, Brandi moved home to Plainview where she lived at Prairie House. Brandi fell and sustained a head injury that caused a brain-bleed and was admitted to Covenant Hospital in Plainview where she received good care from the doctors, nurses, and staff… but Brandi was "called home" Friday evening,  March 15, 2024.

Brandi's life was filled with her favorite people, places, and things. It would be an honor to Brandi's life for everyone to donate to "your favorite" charity or your church in her memory.

We rejoice in the fact that Brandi loved Jesus and He has called her to her "forever home."
