Obituary

Plainview-Bertha Louise Stone, 84, of Plainview, went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 27, 2014. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August, 30 2014 at 2 p.m. at 9th and Columbia Church of Christ with Minister Evan Weiss officiating. Interment will follow the service in Plainview Memorial Park. Funeral service arrangements are under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Stone was born on September 30, 1929 in Del Rio TX. to the late Lonnie E. Bruce and Nina L. (Bryan). She married Kenneth Stone on August 29, 1952 in Austin, TX. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2008. Bertha Louise was raised on a ranch, and was always proud that she could do anything her brothers could do. Her aunt Edloe was influential in making a lady out of her. Always active, she learned to snow ski in her forties, and later grew to love travel, visiting Europe, Russia, South Africa, the Holy Land, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, and Mexico. Much of her travel was done with her dearest friend, June Wells. When at home, Louise was continually cooking for and visiting those in need. She is affectionately remembered for her servant spirit. She was employed as an operator for Southwestern Bell for many years in Leavenworth, KS. , Austin, TX., and Houston, TX. Mrs. Stone was a member of La Casa Club, Hale Co. Genealogy Society, South Plains Genealogy Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames and a very devout member of 9th and Columbia Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth W. Stone, son Kenneth L. Stone, and her four brothers. Those left to cherish her memory are, sons; Gary Stone and wife Lisa of San Antonio, TX., and Darrell Stone and wife Becky of Murfreesboro, TN. She was also blessed with five grandchildren; Chris, Sam Austin, Hannah, and Martha Stone, and two great-granddaughters; Halyn and Brandi.
