Berta Perez, 87 of Plainview, passed away Monday, February 5, 2024, in Lubbock. A Visitation will be held at 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00pm, Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiated by Father George Poonely. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview.
Berta was born on July 31, 1936, in Sonora, Texas to Simon Arevalo and Marina (Constancio) Arevalo. She married Lazaro J. Perez, Jr. in Belton, Texas on September 24, 1953, and together they had seven children. They were married for seventy years until his passing on January 7, 2024. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview.
Berta was a devout Guadalupana and a servant of the church. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed playing the football squares. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends going to play bingo, and she loved to travel to the casinos with her family for a little light fun and gambling on the slot machines. Most of all she loved her children deeply.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lazaro J. Perez, Jr., her son, Luciano Perez, her grandson, Fabian Perez, and her parents, Simon and Marina Arevalo.
Berta leaves a legacy of love, family, and God. Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons: Raul Perez of San Antonio, Lazaro Perez III "Castro" and his wife, Josie of Plainview, and Daniel Perez and his wife, Jo Ann of Houston; her three daughters: Yolanda Perez of Plainview, Joann Perez of Georgetown, and Selma Perez of Fort Worth; three sisters: Marina Torres and her husband, Lupe of Grand Prairie, Hortencia Salinas of Miles, and Clemencia Mendez of Abilene; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
