Bernardo was born January 27, 1954 in Loraine Texas, Mitchell County, Texas to José María and María Teresa (Oliva) Salazar. He attended high school in Boise City, OK, He moved to Plainview around 1991.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, San Juana Salazar and Esperanza Salazar and two brothers, Jose M. Salazar and Johnny Salazar.

Survivors include four sons, David Salazar, Rodger Salazar, Anthony Salazar and Kerry Salazar; two daughters, Brandy Salazar and Candy Salazar; two brothers, Daniel Salazar and Pete Salazar; four sisters, Herminia Luna, Guadalupe Maldonado, Maria Salazar and Carolina Salazar and several grandchildren.
