Benito "Benny" Mitchell, 91 of Plainview, passed away Monday, August 1, 2022. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Lemons Memorial Chapel with Pastor Edward Gilbert Sandoval officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Viewing for Mr. Mitchell will begin at 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Lemons Funeral Home.  Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home.

Benny was born on April 3, 1931, in Mosquero, NM to Marcelino and Manuelita (Tafoya) Mitchell. He married Ruth Lopez on December 24, 1954, in Planview, Texas. Benny worked for the City of Plainview for over 30 years. He was also a welder and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, or anything to do with the outdoors. He had a mini farm and loved his animals. Benny would read his bible daily and loved his deaconship and was very active in the church.

Benny is survived by his wife, Ruth Mitchell of Plainview; one son, Richard Mitchell of Henderson, TX; two daughters, Jeanette Sylvia Mitchell of Yuma, AZ, and Cynthia Mitchell Lopez and John Stephen Lopez of Leander, TX; two brothers, Samuel Mitchell from Mosquero, NM and Hilario Larry Mitchell from Bakersfield, CA; four sisters, Ermelinda Hernandez from Hereford, TX, Pasquala Martinez from Espanola, NM, Maggie Eggert  and Victoria Sandoval both from Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Marcelino Mitchell; mother, Manuelita Tafoya Mitchell; five brothers, Gavino "Joe," Lucario "L.C.," Manuel, Eloy, and Ernesto Mitchell; two sisters, Ramona Escalante, and Carmen Vera.
