Alva Leroyce Kersh, age 89, of Amarillo, formerly of Olton, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in Amarillo.
Leroyce Kersh, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 8, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas. He was 89 years old.
Leroyce was born on December 10, 1935, in Olton, Texas to the late Alva and Thelma Kersh. Leroyce was the oldest of seven siblings. He had three brothers, Calvin, Melvin, and David and three sisters, Bonnie, Joyce, and Ladelle. He attended Olton High School in Olton, Texas. Leroyce lived all but three years of his eighty-nine years in Olton where he was a house painter. Leroyce spent his final three years in Amarillo, Texas.
Leroyce was a devoted family man. He married his sweetheart, Sandra Follis, on August 18, 1956, and they shared sixty-eight wonderful years together. They were blessed with three children, son, Mike Kersh and wife Tasa from Kansas City, MO. Son, Billy Kersh and wife Leisa from Amarillo, TX. Daughter Leigh Ann Dutton and husband Donnie from Leakey, TX. Five grandchildren, Katie Woods, Kyla Skinner, Karie Hutson, Kiefer Dutton, and Kelsie Dutton.
Leroyce was blessed with ten great grandchildren, Maverick Woods, Briggs Dutton, Ace Dutton, Oakley Woods, Emma Hutson, Jett Dutton, Emelia Skinner, Eden Hutson, Charlotte Dutton, and Vivian Skinner.
Leroyce was a kind and caring man who always put others before himself. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone he would meet. He enjoyed spending time with his family, tinkering around the house, finding discarded items, and turning them into family treasures, and living life with his greatest love, Sandy.
Leroyce loved Jesus, his Lord and Savior, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olton, Texas.
Leroyce was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Thelma and Alva Kersh of Olton, Texas and a sister, Bonnie Lunsford of Springlake, Texas. Leroyce is survived by his wife Sandy of Amarillo, his three children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Joyce Tipton of Victoria, Texas; Calvin Kersh and Melvin Kersh of Bedford, Texas; David Kersh of Cedar Hills, Texas; and Ladelle West of Guymon, Oklahoma. Leroyce will be deeply missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
