Plainview-Alice Hobgood, 83, of Plainview, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2014. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Parklawn Memorial Gardens of Plainview. Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at the funeral home.
Alice Pearl Hobgood was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on August 15, 1930, to Frank and Charlotte (Derr) Samuels. She worked as a cashier for Mrs. Baird's Breads for many years before her retirement. Alice loved to play card games and enjoyed visiting with kids and grandkids. She was the best and sweetest mom and grandma in the whole world, and would literally give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Alice is survived by her children: Gloria Smith and her husband, Wilford, of Plainview; Susan Green of Plainview; Erma Ham and her husband, Boyd, of Midland, Texas; Judy Gleaves and her husband, Dwight, of Carrollton, Texas; Betty Lynn Hobgood of Happy, Texas; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Samuels, of York, Pennsylvania and her sister, Frances Samuels, of Altoona, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles "Hobby" Hobgood; one son; one grandson; and seven siblings.
