Plainview-Alfonso Vega, 82, of Plainview, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, December 25, 2013. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Hospice Chaplain Oscar Chavez will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Plainview Memorial Park. Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013, at the funeral Home.
Alfonso Olivarez Vega was born in Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on February 12, 1931, to Jesus Vega and Maria (Olivarez) Vega. He and Enriqueta 'Lupe' Cardenas were married on September 15, 1972 in Tulia. Alfonso farmed for 20 years and then worked at Taylor-Evans/Seed Resource for 22 years. He was a hard working man who provided well for his family. Alfonso was truly a man of all trades who enjoyed woodworking, doing electrical and plumbing work, and repairing cars for his friends and neighbors. He enjoyed music and was a great guitar player. He attended the Church of the Holy Spirit in Tulia.
Alfonso is survived by his wife, Lupe Vega, of the home; daughters: Janie Ramos and her husband, Manuel; Minerva Torres and her husband, Juan; Mirla Monkres and her husband, Larry; sons: Ezekiel (Chico) Vega and his wife, Wilma; Israel Vega and his wife; Judy, Rosendo Ramos and his partner, Laurin Kirk; and Joel Ramos and his wife, Diana; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, and one brother.
The Vega family suggests memorial donations to Area Community Hospice, 4300 Olton Rd., Plainview, Texas, 79072, in lieu of flowers. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Area Community Hospice for their loving and excellent care of Alfonso.
