Alediada M. Martinez, 85 of Plainview, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 1 o' clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at College Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Smith officiating and Steve Martinez, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, assisting. Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home.

In 1950 Adelaida married Manuel Martinez and they began their life together in Edinburg, Texas.  They were migrant workers and traveled many states teaching their children to work hard.  With the help of her eldest son, Juan, who was 17 at the time, they came to Plainview for the summer to work and ended up making Plainview their home.  Manuel passed away in 1971.  Adelaida was very loving to everyone and never let you leave empty handed.  She never said a bad word about anyone.  Her favorite sayings were "Only God knows, and May God help them."  She enjoyed making quilts, doing plastic canvas artwork and word search puzzles.  She would read the Bible cover to cover then go buy a new one and start all over again.  Adelaida was a prayer warrior.  She was a member of Iglesia Nueva Vida then later joined College Heights Baptist Church Sunday School.

To cherish her memory, Adelaida leaves behind 6 daughters: Esmeralda Castillo of Falfurrias, Texas, Elidora and Wallace Shackelford of Plainview, Irma and Jesse Castillo of Abilene, Aurora and Javier Saucedo of Manitowoc, WI, Estella and Manuel Cantu of Amarillo and Olivia and Humberto Garza of Chicago, ILL,; 5 sons:  Juan Martinez, Luciano and Sylvia Martinez of Plainview, Jose and Gracie Martinez, Gaspar and Irma Martinez of Dumas, Texas, Arnulfo and Josie Martinez of Hale Center; 2 sisters; Ofelia Castillo of Plainview, Maria Castillo of Falfurrias; One Brother:  Ovidio and Eva Martinez of Seagraves. She was the proud grandmother of 42 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that she loved.

Adelaida was preceded in death by her Mother: Concepcion Sarmiento of Falfurrias, Texas; Father Jorge Martinez of Mexico, her husband Manuel Martinez; brother Juan Sarmiento; and 4 children

The family would like to give a special thank you to Area Community Hospice of Plainview and Girling Home Health for their great support.
